Stop pretending we can fix the environment by curbing population growth

From the Washington Post:

"When ecologist Corey Bradshaw gives public talks about the state of the globe's endangered wildlife, he sees a recurrent phenomenon. At the end of the talk, in the question and answer period, "someone will stand up and say, 'You’ve neglected the elephant in the room -- human population size is the principal problem,'" says Bradshaw, who is director of ecological modeling at the Environment Institute at the University of Adelaide in Australia.

It's easy to see where this idea comes from: There are a lot of humans on the Earth. There are currently more than 7.2 billion of us, and the UN projects there will be 9.6 billion by 2050, and 10.9 billion by 2100. In fact, though estimates vary, something on the order of 6.5 to 14 percent of all the people who have ever lived at any time, ever, are living now. (Stop and think about that for a minute.) And there's no denying these people take up space and consume resources.

So Bradshaw decided to look into this question of whether trying to reduce the size of the global population would help stave off climate change, the loss of species, and other environmental concerns. The resulting research, just out in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and co-authored by the University of Adelaide's Barry Brook, seriously challenges the idea that greens ought to be campaigning for population control."

AARON RUSSO Gives a MESSAGE to HUMANITY - Final Speech Before His Death

From YouTube:

AARON RUSSO Gives a MESSAGE to HUMANITY - Final Speech Before His Death

A Legacy of Freedom That Will Live On.
In an historic final interview, filmmaker and music promoter Aaron Russo goes in depth on the insider-knowledge given to him by a member of the Rockefeller family. Russo was told (prior to 9/11) of plans to stage terror attacks, invade foreign nations, and kickstart a high-tech police state control grid that would track the populations' every move with implantable R.F.I.D. microchips.

This information-packed presentation is filled with never-before seen footage. Throughout the film, Alex Jones breaks down the latest activities of the New World Order and how it ties into what Russo predicted. Aaron explains how the elite created the women's liberation movement to break up the family and tax working women. Russo breaks down the deception of democracy — which is nothing more than mob rule guaranteed to produce tyranny. Russo also exposes the IRS & Federal Reserve. He blasts the unconstitutional and predatory institutions that have crippled the American Republic and crushed the people with bogus taxes, inflation and loss of privacy. Russo explains that he himself was persecuted in the late 80s by a criminal retroactive tax scheme that attempted to levy new taxes on years already passed. As night falls on the Republic, Aaron Russo delivers a powerful call for the forces of liberty to rise and crush tyranny. Only then can the Republic be restored.

We were saddened to hear of the passing of activist, film maker, freedom fighter and all round maverick Aaron Russo today, who died today after a long battle with cancer at the age of 64.

Aaron will be remembered fondly for all his achievements, not least of which the excellent America: From Freedom to Fascism, his final movie which exposed the fraudulent basis of the IRS and the Federal Reserve.

Aaron was a real patriot who loved his country and risked his whole career to stand for the truth. He was an example to us all.

Bilderberg 2014: George Osborne and the man at the centre of everything

Charlie Skelton, from the Guardian, is once again covering this year's Bilderberg Meeting - here he highlights how George Osborne seems to be not only totally immersed in Biderberg activities, but apparently also being instructed in the way he should do his job as Chancellor – it begins:

“On the sun-drenched patio of the Marriott Hotel in Copenhagen sat the chancellor of the exchequer. He sat quietly and listened carefully as a distinguished older gentleman gave him what appeared to be an intense and barely-interrupted 25 minute briefing. George Osborne sat and listened, while we stood and watched.

The body language was fascinating. George was tense, leaning in, petitioning. The man opposite was physically relaxed but full of gestures and explanations. George was there to listen hard and get up to speed. Apart from a two-minute speech at the end, he opened his lips barely a dozen times, and half of those were simply to have a sip of his fruit punch.”

It really is difficult to believe that these high fliers choose to take three days from their busy schedules just for a chat.

Bilderberg at 60: inside the world's most secretive conference

An interesting and amusing article by Charlie Skelton, who has covered the Bilderberg meetings for some time for the Guardian, showing how the group has become increasingly influential over time and how there is now some awareness of the group's activities with the growth of the internet - even if what is discussed and who actually attends is still something of a mystery.

Perhaps this quote from Michael Meacher best summarises the article:

"MP Michael Meacher describes Bilderberg as "the cabal of the rich and powerful" who are working "to consolidate and extend the grip of the markets". And they're doing so "beyond the reach of the media or the public". That said, every year, the press probes a little further behind the security fencing. Every year the questions for the politicians who attend, but remain silent, get harder."

Lets hope he is right to expect greater transparency in the future.

Bilderberg Group 2014 - An Explanation for Beginners

From You Tube:

"Right now, in Copenhagen, Denmark, the global elite are cloistered together in a meeting shrouded in secrecy. The world's most powerful politicians, corporations, media giants, academic leaders and bankers are gathered to exchange ideas on how to push forward the agenda for a New World Order. Many people new to this issue are perplexed by what the Bilderberg Group is and what it does. Is it simply a meeting by world leaders to discuss ways to help improve conditions on our planet? Or is something far more sinister going on.

The following video has been created to help people understand what is happening behind the closed doors of the Bilderberg Group meeting. Among topics of discussion are the identities of some of the Bilderbergers, secret societies such as the Bohemian Club who participate in stylized ritual sacrifice, the pyramid structure of the New World Order, the brokering of private deals between US and other world leaders - and how these deals threaten our liberties."

“The True Story of the Bilderberg Group” and What They May Be Planning Now

From Global Reach - a Review of Daniel Estulin's book.

"For over 14 years, Daniel Estulin has investigated and researched the Bilderberg Group’s far-reaching influence on business and finance, global politics, war and peace, and control of the world’s resources and its money.

His book, “The True Story of the Bilderberg Group,” was published in 2005 and is now updated in a new 2009 edition. He states that in 1954, “the most powerful men in the world met for the first time” in Oosterbeek, Netherlands, “debated the future of the world,” and decided to meet annually in secret. They called themselves the Bilderberg Group with a membership representing a who’s who of world power elites, mostly from America, Canada, and Western Europe with familiar names like David Rockefeller, Henry Kissinger, Bill Clinton, Gordon Brown, Angela Merkel, Alan Greenspan, Ben Bernanke, Larry Summers, Tim Geithner, Lloyd Blankfein, George Soros, Donald Rumsfeld, Rupert Murdoch, other heads of state, influential senators, congressmen and parliamentarians, Pentagon and NATO brass, members of European royalty, selected media figures, and invited others – some quietly by some accounts like Barack Obama and many of his top officials.

Always well represented are top figures from the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), IMF, World Bank, Trilateral Commission, EU, and powerful central bankers from the Federal Reserve, the ECB’s Jean-Claude Trichet, and Bank of England’s Mervyn King."

“We’re dooming ourselves and our children”

The full quote from Frances Beinecke, president of the US Natural Resources Defense Council, following their latest National Climate Assessment was:

“Our leading scientists send a stark message: Climate change is already seriously disrupting our lives, hurting our health and damaging our economy.”

“If we don’t slam the brakes on the carbon pollution driving climate change, we’re dooming ourselves and our children to more intense heat waves, destructive floods and storms, and surging sea levels.”

It appears that our attachment to consuming, to getting and spending, will be the cause of our end – and of course the majority of other species on planet Earth.

An alien visitor might conclude that humankind is collectively insane to risk changing the climate of their only home to a point where they or their children can no longer survive.

However, like most casual observations – this would not be true, for it is not the vast majority of humankind that is preventing the slamming on of the brakes, but a select few – those who benefit enormously from the continuation of the burning of vast quantities of fossil fuel to support our established life style and who block most attempts to replace fossil fuel with clean forms of energy.

These select few are those who control the US Congress and it this body that needs, at least, to pass new laws on carbon emissions from power plants – President Obama’s Climate Action Plan. However, as lead author to the National Climate Assessment, Professor Gary Yohe pointed out:

“One of the few places in the US where it looks like climate change is a 50-50 proposition is in the Congressional record. That is problematic.”

As a result, there is a general pessimism amongst the authors of the assessment that Congress will enact the necessary legislation – because of the power of the petroleum and other industries lobby. Such is the cost of a successful campaign to become elected to the US Congress that the giant multinationals are amongst the few who can afford this process – so it is the candidates supported by these that become elected in significant numbers.

It does appear that this lobby, those that claim that there is still insufficient evidence that climate change is being caused by the activities of mankind, will not be convinced that this is the case until it is so obviously true that any proposed action will be no longer of use.

There are more details from the BBC and in the Independent.

The deadly diesel deception: We were bullied into buying diesel cars to help fight global warming. Now experts say this 'green' fuel is killing thousands of us

From the Mail - although acknowledging that diesel does create less greenhouse gas emission - the article claims the health costs are too high.

"I am no global warming denier. I believe that climate change is taking place and agree that we need to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. But not at any cost.

And the cost of the switch to diesel is terrifying.

Diesel exhaust is a complex mixture of thousands of gases and fine particles that contains more than 40 toxic air contaminants. These include cancer-causing substances such as benzene, arsenic and formaldehyde, as well as other seriously harmful pollutants.

The microscopic particles in diesel exhaust are less than one-fifth the thickness of a human hair, small enough to penetrate deep into the lungs and bloodstream, causing inflammation, asthma attacks, heart attacks and strokes, and worsening lung disease in the elderly and young. The World Health Organisation says long-term exposure to these particles — called PM2.5s because they are just two-and-a-half thousands of a millimetre across — alters the way children's brains grow and could make them less intelligent.

Californian research last year found a link between pollutants in diesel fumes and autism."

Climate change report 'should jolt people into action' says IPCC chief

From the Guardian - UN science panel's chairman, Rajendra Pachauri, says report on impacts of rising temperatures should push leaders to act.

"The head of the United Nations climate panel said he hoped its report on the rising threat of climate change would “jolt people into action”.

The report, released on Monday, is a 2,600-page catalogue of the risks to life and livelihood from climate change – now and in the future.

Rajendra Pachauri, who has headed the IPCC for 12 years, said he hoped it would push government leaders to deal with climate change before it is too late.

“I hope these facts will - for want of a better word - jolt people into action,” he said.

The US Secretary of State, John Kerry, took a similar line.

“Read this report and you can't deny the reality: Unless we act dramatically and quickly, science tells us our climate and our way of life are literally in jeopardy,” Kerry said in a statement. "Let's make our political system wake up and let's make the world respond."

A recent YouGov poll in the UK, on the subject of worldwide climate change, showed:

57% believe it is changing as a result of human activity
27% believe it  is changing but NOT because of humans
7% believe it is NOT changing
9% were not sure

also in response to the question:

Do you think that you personally will feel the effects of climate change in your lifetime, or not?

Yes, I will  . . .. 62%
No, I will not. . 22%
Not sure . . . ... 16%

Whereas much of the damage caused has been by previous generations freely burning fossil fuels to create energy – those generations did not know the damage they were doing. However, the current generation does know the harm that is being inflicted on the planet through this practice and so are in the unique situation of being able to choose whether to act to help save future generations from the dire consequences – or not.

No doubt most of the individuals who do believe that mankind is responsible for climate change make every effort to reduce their ‘carbon footprint’. However, any significant changes have to be created by government policy and the Coalition, led by the Tories, are most reluctant to confront the issue. They know that any serious attempt must hamper their vision of a future where giant multinationals invest in the UK to provide low paid jobs and who provide goods and services to a market consisting of the EU and North America.

Clearly, until clean energy can replace the burning of fossil fuels – any expansion or enlarging of markets is directly in conflict with attempts to reduce carbon emissions for it increases the need for energy to transport goods across the EU or the Atlantic. The same conflict applies to the free global market that has created such riches for the executives and major share holders of the multinationals.

Until the technology that can produce clean energy, which avoids burning fossil fuels, has been developed – markets should be reduced in size rather than increased – so that goods are produced as close to their point of use as possible. Unfortunately, the petroleum corporations are extremely profitable and represent a hugely powerful lobby on governments – they clearly are not keen on the development of clean energy – since it would eventually put them out of business. So a stalemate has been reached.

Chris Smith, the chairman of the Environment Agency, made it clear during the worst of the flooding on the Somerset Levels that his agency is following an EU strategy which allows for previously claimed land to be sacrificed to the sea – because of the high maintenance cost. This may make sense for the EU as a whole. However, since the UK can barely feed half of its rapidly expanding population and that climate change is bound to steadily reduce global food production – the cost of importing food is certain to rise relentlessly.

Out of the EU and free of their endless directives and regulations, small business could be encouraged to produce the goods required locally – thereby relying less on the multinationals and the free global market. An independent UK could halt the rapid rise in the population through, once again, being able to control its borders. We would also be likely to ensure that our flood defenses were secure so that essential farm land was not lost to the sea.
