Jesse Ventura torn between backing Sanders, Trump

From 'The Hill' - "Former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura on Monday said he is torn between supporting Sen. Bernie Sanders or Donald Trump for president.

“People give them no PAC money, no special interest money,” he told The Associated Press. "To me, that’s the most important thing."

Ventura said he admires both Sanders and Trump for campaigning outside of the Democratic and Republican political establishments. The former professional wrestler added that their bids resemble his own underdog gubernatorial campaign as a Reform Party candidate in 1998.

Ventura, who is still weighing his own White House run as an independent, also told AP he would not make a formal endorsement because he does not belong to either candidate’s party.

Ventura added that his final decision on seeking the Oval Office depends on who wins each party’s nomination. He said "the chances are better" that he would run if Hillary Clinton is the Democratic nominee and Marco Rubio is her Republican counterpart.

“I don’t want the revolution to die if Bernie gets beat,” he added."

Jesse Ventura has become something of a hero figure for many Americans since he presented a conspiracy theory series that tackled many of the issues that they believe have not been satisfactorily explained including 9/11, Roswell, the death of Kennedy.

Having been a SEAL, a successful professional wrestler and a former governor of Minnesota he was in a position to confront government officials who would be 'out of bounds' to the ordinary citizen.

His appeal is similar to that of Sanders and Trump - someone outside 'the system' - that ever increasing numbers in the US have become deeply suspicious of - which has led to them to doubt much of what those in power say.

If this is Ventura's initial move to prepare for a 'crowd funded' attempt to win the US presidency as an independent - it may surprise many, if not most, people in the UK that his 'sensationalised' approach to all he does could have any chance of success. However, Trump's style was initially viewed as one that would lead to utter failure - and has proved not to be the case.

If Ventura does start to get the financial backing that he needs he could become an even greater surprise and threat to the US 'Establishment' than Trump for unlike billionaire Trump he is seen as a working class hero and would be a more natural opponent to Hilary Clinton when Sanders does eventually drop out. At that time Sander's backing would help him no end.
